The idea for the Friends of Bigfork Fire Department was originally proposed by Bigfork residents Chuck Gough and Joyce Mitchell in 2007, as a way for community members, who could not be active firefighters, to contribute to the department in a meaningful way.

FoBFD is a non-profit (501c-3) organization, dedicated to providing funds (unavailable in the Fire District budget) for the safety and training of our FD volunteers. We are made up of many enthusiastic hands of neighbors and friends.

FoBFD began raising money by organizing an annual fall fundraiser on the Friday of or before 9 -11. This affair is called the “FUNdraiser BBQ for the Bigfork Fire Department", featuring; dinner and drinks, and social gathering, which gives the community the opportunity to meet our FD volunteers.

The event includes the “Niner-Niner” golf tournament at Eagle Bend Golf Course, along with tennis
at the Montana Athletic Club-Bigfork and pickle-ball at the Jewel Basin Center.

The Bigfork community has participated every year, and contributed most generously. Over a quarter of a million dollars has been raised so far, allowing us to build a ‘Live Fire Training Building’ at the Echo Lake Station. This building provides the actual conditions firefighters experience when entering a structure engulfed in flames.

We are currently involved in the purchase of equipment to enhance the safety of our firefighters and EMT’s when they respond to you in your time of need; Wild Land Rescue Vehicle, Turnout Suits, Extrication Tools, Fire Helmets, Emergency Lighting, Highway Safety Vests, and Digital Highway Signage.

Please consider contributing to, or volunteering with FoBFD. We’d love to have you in our organization.  Call Jim Sticka at 406-692-6050 or email fofbfd@gmail.com for more information.
